One needs to praise themselves whenever possible, for there are others sitting ready to badmouth you.

This is a story of an old man, who used to hate his neighbour. So he started bad-mouthing about him. He spread a rumor that his neighbor is a thief.

Surprisingly people started believing him and began keeping a distance with the neighbour.

The neighbor started losing all his friends and failed in his business too. He was very upset and went out to find the reason for all of this.

To his surprise, he got to know from someone that his next-door neighbor was the one who was spreading the rumour, that he is a thief.

He got very angry and planned to sue him.

So they both reached court on the day of the hearing.

The Judge asked the old man the reason for spreading this rumor against his next-door neighbor.

The old man said pretty coolly that they were just words and that they did not hurt anyone.

The Judge was puzzled. He said he will pronounce his decision a little later and that before giving any decision he wanted the old man to do something.

The judge asked the old man to write down everything he said about his neighbor on a piece of paper.

And on the way home, tear the paper into small pieces and throw it out of the window. He then asked him to come back the next day morning for the hearing.

The old man followed what the judge said and came back the next day morning for a hearing.

The Judge told the old man that his decision in his favor.

He turned to the old man and told him that he wanted the old man to do just one more thing before he announced it.

He asked the old man to go and gather all the pieces of paper he had thrown out of the window, the previous day.

The old man looked at the judge and said, “Are you kidding me, how is that possible?

By now, the wind must have spread those pieces all over, how am I going to find those pieces”.

Hearing this the judge replied, “Exactly! When we say hurtful things about someone, it works the same way.

You will never be able to get those words back. They are spread out there all over, everywhere”. And saying this he ruled against the old man.

Words seem to be like mere words, absolutely harmless. But that isn’t really the truth.

Words can hurt more than any other weapon in the world.

When we speak negatively about someone it may feel like just words and comments.

We may feel as if those words are harmless and no one will ever get harmed or, even find out.

But in reality, they can tear someone to pieces causing someone so much pain and suffering that those pieces can never be put back together.

We can also never take those words back just like those pieces of paper that were blown away in the wind.

If we can’t speak well of someone, then the best thing to do is not say anything at all.

Because if we can’t be masters of our mouth, then we can end up as a slave to our words.

And most importantly remember-when your feet slips, you can always recover your balance…but when your tongue slips you can never recover your words.
