A few weeks back, my husband had to go to Hyderabad on a business trip. This was his first trip ever to the IT city and amongst all the things that we knew about the city, Karachi biscuits was one that kept all of us a little amazed. Why? Because Karachi had nothing to do with Hyderabad and specifically with a biscuit available in Hyderabad.
When he came back he had brought a few packs of Eggless Tutti Frutti Cookies (Karachi biscuits), all different varieties. The biscuits were rich in dry fruits and looked pretty much like bakery biscuits that are available here in Bangalore. But if you want to know the difference, you need to taste it.
A few days back, I happened to go to one of my friends’ house and there she served the exact same tutti-frutti Karachi biscuits that my husband had got from Hyderabad. The only difference was that she called it cookies and in Hyderabad it was being called as biscuits. Even more surprising was the fact that these cookies were homemade.
I was quick to check on the recipe. As soon as I came home, I decided that the coming weekend was going to be the day when I am going to make these cookies at home. The day arrived, I went into the kitchen, spent a few hours and at the end of it all… it turned out to be a disaster. Neither did my cookies look like cookies, nor did it taste like one.
But, I had decided that I wasn’t going to give up. 2 weeks later, I went in to try it again and the result was better but not as expected. But by the third time, I had perfected the art (self-appraisal) and my cookies turned out to be yummy and good looking.
In all of this, guess who was the guinea pig for all my tasteless cookies – My husband and my daughter..
So here is the recipe to these amazingly tasty cookies…
